| What is the deal with red meat |
| 14.07.2010 17:02:22 | |
|
Red meat is the mainstay of the American diet. The big question is it good or bad for you? So what is the conclusion? There are studies that say it’s good for you and there are studies that say it is bad for you. So what is the answer? It all depends on how the meat is handled before it ends up on your plate. What is so bad about beef? The first and most important thing about why red meat is bad for you is the way it is raised. Beef, in the old days, was raised on the farm. The cow grazed in the field and obtained large amounts of fiber, high nutrient density of protein and was naturally low in fat. The healthy cows were high in Vitamin E, Beta Carotene, Vitamin C, Omega 3 fatty acids, Zinc, Iron, Creatine, B12, Selenium (Anti cancer supplement) and a slue of many other healthy nutrients. In addition to containing more essential vitamins and nutrients, grass-fed cattle raised in open pastures are the richest known source of conjugated linoeic acid (CLA), which is another type of good fat. CLA is stored in fat cells and has been shown to reduce cancer risks in humans. Grass-fed animals can contain as much as three to five times more CLA than grain-fed animals. The problem today is how cows are sold at market. The heavier the cow, the better the price at market for their product. This forces beef owners to work to increase the pounds of cattle so they can make more money. They placed the cows in small pens, to minimize calories burned by the cows, they fed them high calorie low fiber grains and the result was an unhealthy, obese cow. Now the cows are sick and they need antibiotics to stop the severe infections that have occurred. They needed regular injections, immunizations, and ultimate steroids. The cows are now loaded with toxins, fats, and are low in vitamins and trace minerals. Now that the beef has been exposed to the antibiotics, they create antibiotic resistance for you if you happen to consume the beef. You eat the meat, you become antibiotic resistant, and when you need these vital medicines, if you happen to need them, they will not work. Now after being sold at market, they are processed and the meat is packaged. Nitrites and Nitrates are added to the meat to keep the meat looking pink longer. This provides no benefit to preserving the meat; it just makes it look good to the consumer. Worse, when Nitrites and Nitrates are heated, they combine the amino acids in the meat and form Nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are very aggressive cancer producing chemicals. The key to success when eating beef is making sure your meat is grass fed, chemical and medication free, and keep portion sized to the size of your fist or palm. Balance your meals with a good vegetable or fruit and beef can be an excellent source of nutrition for your body. Hope this helps you all move forward in your health.
